Welcome

UP TO A REAL INTELLECTUAL CHALLENGE? If you’re eligible, Ohio Wesleyan’s Leland F. and Helen Schubert Honors Program gives you the chance to push well beyond your personal boundaries and learn more than you ever thought you could.

Participation in the program, which is voluntary, offers many advantages. You can:

  • Tailor your education to your specific needs and interests
  • Pursue advanced topics
  • Master complex analytical and research skills
  • Increase your ability to work independently
  • Widen your career options

And you don’t have to wait for these exciting opportunities. You’ll plunge into Honors Tutorials during your first year, working one-to-one with a faculty member or joining others in small student interest groups; the curriculum is adjusted to reflect your interests. Rigorous coursework and in-depth discussions will hone your analytical, critical, reasoning, and research skills. As you move through the entire Honors Program, which also consists of Honors Courses and advanced sections of existing courses, you’ll take part in advanced seminars and independent studies that propel you to even greater intellectual growth.

You can graduate with University Honors, Departmental Honors, or Honors in Course, all of which demonstrate significant achievement in advanced study.

University Honors requires:

  • Participation in Honors tutorials and courses
  • A comprehensive exam in your major
  • Achieving a 3.5 GPA or better

Departmental Honors requires:

  • Completion of a year-long independent study
